Self-Care and Wellness

What does self-care look and feel like to you?


 

 

Our health and wellness begin and ends with our attention to balanced self-care.

 

Giving to the point of depletion is a sure way to sabotage our personal health and wellness goals. Martyrdom for the sake of family and friends robs us of our vitality, our strength, and our calm which creates fertile ground for illness and dis-ease.

 

As women, our responsibilities to work and family must measure well with our commitment to self-care. Taking time out to rest and refocus our energies is also honoring our souls in positive ways.

 

So how do we maintain the balance of personal responsibilities and self-care?

 

Prioritize self-care.

Recognize the importance of looking after yourself.

 

Listen to your body.

Hunger, pain, stress, feeling sad are all signs that your body is alerting you to its needs.

 

Make appointments with yourself.

Pencil yourself in for something you enjoy to relax and refocus during your day. A ten-minute refresher with a cup of tea, a short walk, or an inspirational quote can do wonders.

 

Set boundaries.

“No” is a complete sentence. Give yourself permission to say it.

 

Learn to delegate.

You do not have to be the one that does everything. Allowing your partner to take care of some of their own needs, setting age-appropriate expectations for your children, and encouraging realistic expectations at work creates balance personally and professionally.

 

In order to serve well, you must be strong in mind, in the body, and in spirit.

  1. Thanks for the reminder that we need to take care of yourself. I really like the part about penciling yourself in and doing something that you like.
